Teach Me How To Love

What if it is just a word
That we often use to replace
The feelings and thoughts that we are too tired, scared, unsure of
To admit

When the water freezes into ice
Then melts and drowns our shared existence
What is this ache
That leads me back to you

How do you give
Without anticipating a return
How do you act
Without expecting a reaction

Why am I waiting for that which I do not recognize
What creates the smile
Then leaves it in the end, agonized

There is an echo between your heart and mine
That keeps me looking up above
Come and find me through noise and silence
Tear me apart and teach me how to love
